Yᵉhôwshua HaMashiach is the Hebrew translation of Jesus, the Christ. The Scriptures say that “His name shall be called Jesus.” (Matthew 1:21 and Luke 1:31). Jesus is an English translation of the Greek name Iēsous.¹ The etymology or root word of Iēsous is the Hebrew name Yᵉhôwshua² which is formed from two words: Yehovah (the Existing One), (Strong’s H3068) and yasha (to save, be delivered), (Strong’s H3467). Hence, Yᵉhôwshua means:  Yahweh (Yah, LORD, the Existing One) Is Salvation.
