What is Eternal Life?

You may have read in a previous post  that my husband, Bobby, recently went home to be with the Lord. I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ. However, I often find myself having to be reminded of His promises of eternal life. I need to be reminded that I will be reunited with my husband. I desire that the promise of eternal life be rooted and grounded in me; that it becomes an intrinsic part of my being.
I invite you to join with me as we read and meditate on Scriptures which promise eternal life. Let us, together, allow the promise of eternal life to be planted in our spirits and embedded in our souls. May the Lord Jesus Christ give us spiritual wisdom and revelation in our knowledge of Him. . . so that we may know what is the hope of his calling. (Ephesians 1:17-18)

What is Eternal Life?

On different occasions, the Gospels speak of individuals who asked Jesus, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Matthew 19:16, Mark 10:17, Luke 18:18, Luke 10:25). Jesus’ answer was wisely tailored to the circumstances of each one of the individuals. However, the bottom line of His response was that, to inherit eternal life, one must be spiritually transformed by faith in Him. The quintessential answer to the question, “what is eternal life?” is:

“This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” (John 17:3)

Give The Lord a “Yet” Praise

Read

  Psalms 42:11 (NIV)

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God,     for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Reflect

Re-read the text. Think about it for a few minutes. Have you praised the LORD today in spite of the circumstances?

Respond

Respond to the Lord by yet praising Him, by yet putting your hope in Him . . .even though your soul is sad for the moment. Wait and see what happens when you do this.

Rest

Finally, simply rest in the Word of God and in His presence. Abide in the Lord and allow Him to abide in you by and through His Word.

In Christ All Will Be Made Alive

Read

  I Corinthians 15:19-22 (NET)

For  if only in this life we have hope in Christ, we should be pitied more than anyone. But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also came through a man. For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

Reflect

Slowly re-read the scripture. Think about it for a few minutes. Do you have hope in Christ  — for this life and all eternity?

Respond

Respond to the Lord by thanking Him for being the Hope of not only this life but forevermore!
